Rick Owens' runway shows are never short of controversy, and today's
Spring 2016 presentation is also cause for conversation. His models hit
the runway with
other models harnessed onto their bodies, hanging upside-down.From an outsider's perspective, it seems like a reference to BDSM,
but spectators, via social media, describe the show as "emotional" and "moving."
While the models walked, a singer crooned the line, "This land is mine," over and over. Owens himself told Dazed that the collection is about "women raising women, women becoming women, and women supporting women." A feminist statement? We can get behind that—though perhaps not quite literally.
