Led by a block by Michael Vick, Bell's 11-yard touchdown put Pittsburgh in front, 10-7, with just under two minutes left in the first half. A 36-yard field goal by Josh Scobee at the buzzer stretched the Black and Gold's halftime lead to 13-7.
In a first half that saw three lead changes, Pittsburgh scored on their second possession, with Scobee's 45-yard field goal capping off an 8-play, 52-yard drive.
Aided by a surprisingly effective running game, the Ravens responded on their very next possession. On a drive that saw them convert three-third down conversions, Michael Campanaro's nine-yard touchdown run gave Baltimore a 7-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Steelers defense tightened up after that, however, as Pittsburgh held the Ravens to just 111 yards in the first. The secondary also improved as the half progressed, as Ross Cockrell recorded his first interception as a Steeler.
With their defense on a roll, Pittsburgh's offense got rolling as well, scoring 10 points on their last two possessions of the first half. In his first start as a Steeler, Vick completed 11-of-13 passes for 75 yards. Bell's touchdown gave him 50 yards on nine carries, as he is on pace for his first career 100-yard game against the Ravens. And after failing to record a catch in the first half, Antonio Brown came on strong in the second quarter, catching four passes for 25 yards as No.84 began to gain a rapport with his new starting quarterback.
