“Certain lines should never be crossed,” Chaffetz said in a statement forwarded to TheBlaze. “The unauthorized access and distribution of my personal information crossed that line.”
An assistant director had suggested leaking information aimed at embarrassing the congressman. Such actions could constitute criminal violations under the U.S. Privacy Act.
“It was a tactic designed to intimidate and embarrass me and frankly, it is intimidating,” Chaffetz said. “It’s scary to think about all the possible dangers in having your personal information exposed.”
