A Furious Jason Chaffetz Responds to Allegations Secret Service Accessed His ‘Personal Information’ to Embarrass Him While He Probed the Agency

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) ripped into the Secret Service Wednesday after an Associated Press investigation revealed the agency accessed his personal information while he actively probed alleged shenanigans committed by agents.
“Certain lines should never be crossed,” Chaffetz said in a statement forwarded to TheBlaze. “The unauthorized access and distribution of my personal information crossed that line.”

An assistant director had suggested leaking information aimed at embarrassing the congressman. Such actions could constitute criminal violations under the U.S. Privacy Act.
“It was a tactic designed to intimidate and embarrass me and frankly, it is intimidating,” Chaffetz said. “It’s scary to think about all the possible dangers in having your personal information exposed.”

Chaffetz, however, said he would continue to do his work.
“The work of the committee … will continue,” he said. “I remain undeterred in conducting proper and rigorous oversight.”
